Foreign Students
Delhi University (DU) is not only a preferred destination for Indian students, but also it attracts students from throughout the globe. DU recognizes the examinations of various countries equivalent to the senior school certificate examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education. The candidates who have passed these examinations will only be eligible for admission into undergraduate programs.

Eligibility for Undergraduate programs
Evidence of required academic performance must be in the form of certified English transcripts listing all the courses with the grades or marks earned. Transcripts in languages other than English are not acceptable. Applicants for any of the Under-Graduate Course must have completed the 12 years of formal schooling. Applicants who have passed final School Certificate Examination of twelve year duration are advised to apply preferably by 31st March each year for admission in July that year. However, applications are accepted up to 30th April.
The minimum admission requirement in terms of the percentage of marks that are required by a candidate for being admitted to a course varies in many cases from year to year. The number of seats in the Science Courses is extremely limited. In view of the large number of highly qualified applicants, only those students who have secured approximately 65 percent marks in aggregate have a chance of securing admission. Applicants for courses in the Arts and Social Sciences are expected to have secured around 60 percent marks in the final school examination
Eligibility for Admission to Post-Graduate Courses
For admission to a post-graduate programme of studies in any discipline, one must have completed 12 years of formal education at the School level followed by a Bachelor’s Degree of at least 3 years duration. However, the admission to post-graduate courses is rather restricted and the applicant should have an excellent academic record to stand a fair chance for admission.
Eligibility for admission to M.Phil and Ph.D Courses
University of Delhi also offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. Courses in all the Departments/Faculties. The minimum admission requirement for the research degree (Ph.D) is a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree of Indian University or any other degree recognized as equivalent to it. In very exceptional cases a University teacher having adequate teaching experience with good Master’s degree may be admitted directly to Ph.D course. The admission for these courses is very limited and is decided by the respective Departments/Faculties on the basis of a very sound academic record along with a detailed research proposal.
Age Requirements
No candidate is qualified for admission to the University in the first year of the degree course unless he/she is seventeen years of age before the first day of October in the year in which he/she seeks admission. Likewise for M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., LL.B. and B.Ed.
Courses the applicant must be 20 years of age before the first day of October in the year in which admission is being sought.
Foreign Students Registration
Applicants seeking admission to courses of Delhi University and have passed a recognized examination are advised to send their applications on the prescribed form (which can also be downloaded from the University website www.du.ac.in) along with duplicate photostate copies of the transcripts to

latest by 30th April every year.
However, the last date for applicants who require clearance from the Equivalence
Committee is 31st March. If the candidate meets the eligibility requirements and is found eligible, University will issue provisional admission letter to him/her. A copy of this letter will be endorsed to the Indian Mission in the country of domicile of the candidate on the basis of which the concerned Mission will issue a Student’s Visa so that the student can come to India and join the University. No foreign student will be admitted to this University or any other University without a Student’s Visa. Such Student’s Visa will be extended by the Ministry of Home Affairs after ascertaining that student pursuing his/her studies, is receiving remittance through proper banking channels.
The admission of Foreign Students to Medical and Engineering courses is done by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. A number of seats in these courses are reserved for the nationals of various countries. Foreign students desirous of joining these professional courses should contact the nearest Indian Mission for necessary information.
Academic Year
University academic year is divided into 3 terms:
First Term: 16th July to 30th September
Second Term: 16th October to 23rd December
Third Term: 8th January to 24th March
The University examinations are held in most cases at the end of the Third Term, i.e. in April.
