Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), better known as the Indraprashta University, was established by the Government of Delhi under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act (9 of 1998) with a vision to promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education. Prof. K.K. Aggarwal became the first Vice-Chancellor of the varsity in December 1998. The office of the University was established in January 1999 at the old campus of Delhi College of Engineering at Kashmere Gate. The campus of the University was setup on a land measuring 60 acres at Dwarka (West Delhi) which was taken into possession by the Government of Delhi. The varsity is now situated near the entrance of the main gate at G.P.O., Kashmere Gate side, so it will be very convenient for public to come across. The university provides comprehensive teaching and research facilities with a focus on professional education in the disciplines of engineering, technology, management studies, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, education, law, etc. The University is running more than 60 programmes in 8 University Schools of Studies and 86 Institutes (Government as well as self-financing) affiliated to it. The varsity imparts professional education in various disciplines to more than 40,000 students with an annual intake of about 12,000 students.
