Schools & Centres School of Arts & Aesthetics (SAA)
The School of Arts & Aesthetics (SAA) of JNU is probably one of the few academic institutions in the country offers MPhil, PhD. in the streams of the Visual Arts, Cinema Studies and Theatre Performance Studies.
School of Biotechnology
The School of Biotechnology has jointly been established in 1985 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The school of Biotechnology offers MSc. Course in Biotechnology. The admission is offered on the basis of joint examination conducted by the JNU. The school also offers PhD and Pre-PhD in various areas of research including Protein Engineering, Immunology Protein stability, conformation and folding etc.
School of Computer & System Sciences (SCSS)
The School of Computer & System Sciences came into existence in 1975. The School offers programmes of instructions and research leading to degree of MCA, M.Tech, PhD. School of Environmental Sciences (SES)
The School came into existence in 1974 and awards degrees leading to MSc., MPhil and PhD.
School of Information Technology (SIT)
Newest of the JNU family, established in 2001 presently consists of the Centre for Computational Biology and Bio-Informatics (CCBB) (formerly known as BioInformatics Centre (BIC)), the High Performing Computing Center (HPCC) and the Communication and Information Services (CIS). The school emphasizes on the use of information technology on education and research. School of International Studies (SIS)One of the oldest schools of JNU, since its inception in 1955 the school has flourished as one of the leading institution in the country offering courses in international relations and area studies. School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies
The School came into existence in 1969, offers various five- year integrated B.A./M.A. programmes and part-time Certificate and Diploma courses. The five year integrated B.A. programme is offered in several foreign languages.
School of Life Sciences (SLS)
School of Life Sciences popularly known as SLS, came into being in 1970. The School has achieved rare distinctions in the areas of teaching and research in Life Sciences. The school is currently offering M.Sc and M.Phil programmes in Life Sciences.
School of Physical Sciences (SPS)
The School of Physical Sciences (SPS) is one of the premier university departments of India in terms of research and teaching in physical sciences. The School offers Ph.D. (Physical Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Mathematical Sciences) and M.Sc. (Physics) degree programme in Physics.
School of Social Sciences (SSS)
The school of Social Sciences is the largest faculty in the university. Established in 1970, the School has emerged as a multi-disciplinary centre foir study and research in the field of History, Geography, Economics, psychology, sociology and so on. The school offers MA/MPhil and PhD in Social Science.
Special Centre for Molecular Medicine
The Special Centre for Molecular Medicine (SCMM) has been set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the auspices of Jawaharlal Nehru University. The centre offers PhD and pre-PhD programs in the branch of Molecukar medicine which is open to those candidates who have background of biological sciences / MBBS/ B.V.Sc./ B.Pharm.
Special Centre for Sanskrit
The Centre for Sanskrit Studies has been set up in JNU to provide students and researchers quality teaching and research programmes at M.A. and M.Phil./Ph.D. levels. The programs include various aspects of Sanskrit education including Veda, Sahitya, Darsana, Computational Linguistics, Sanskrit Linguistics, Social thought, Indian Aesthetics & Poetics and Pali & Prakrit Studies etc.
Centre for the Study of Law and Governance
The Centre for the Study pf Law and Governance has been established by JNU with an aim to provide research and teaching facilities to students on the contemporary issues on law and governance. The centre tries to translate theory of law and governance into practices by initiating debate, sharing research and encouraging dialogue between the academia, government, civil society and NGOs at local, national and global levels.
