Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution

The Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution is one of the first centers of its kind to be established at an Indian university, working primarily in the areas of peace and conflict studies.

It aims to fill a strange gap in Indian academic life – the lack of serious and purposeful analysis of types and sources of conflict, and the methods of dealing with them that India has adopted.

There is also a substantive body of more recent Indian field experience in strategies of conflict resolution, from the very successful non-violent movement for independence to fifty years of peacekeeping under the United Nations. And there is a repertoire of domestic experience in conflict resolution post-independence, from dealing with self-determination aspirations through the creation of linguistic and normative states, to establishing local and civic mechanisms for dispute.

Besides grooming researchers for this field, the centre also offers its unique degree programme titled:

  • MA. In Conflict Analysis & Peace Building
