Directorate of Education (DoE), New Delhi

The Directorate of Education (DoE) of the government of Delhi is the highest authority that looks after school education in the state, particularly at the middle, secondary and senior secondary levels.

Although looking after pre-primary and primary education is mainly the responsibility of the local bodies, the Delhi governemnt has converted 326 schools into composite schools now known as Sarvodaya Vidyalayas offering classes from I to XII.

The main mission and vision of the DoE is to provide quality schooling to every student from Class I to XII irrespective of their caste, colour, creed, religion and to improve the literacy rate in Delhi (86.34% as of 2011 census).

The various powers and responsibilities of the DoE, Delhi are as per the Delhi School Education Act, 1973.
